“As well as feeling fitter, I feel much more confident now – confident in myself and confident that I can sustain the changes I made on the program. I would advise anyone who’s concerned about their health to do it."

LuShun 2A unique objective and a determination to be the best family man he could motivated Shun to join the Life! program.

“I had a routine work health check,” explains the 28-year-old IT specialist, “and the results showed that I had a significant chance of developing high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. Knowing that Asian people have a comparatively high chance of developing diabetes anyway, I decided that it was time for some lifestyle change.”

Shun was driven by a particular ambition: “To stop snoring! I knew that losing some weight would help with that, and that that would really put me in my wife’s good books. Also, I wanted to help her look after our baby, and I just didn’t feel that I had the energy to do that. So it was time to get fitter.”

Shun chose to participate in the Life! program via the phone counselling option. “It was really convenient for me as getting the calls on Saturdays meant that they didn’t disturb my working week. My Life! coach was very understanding and tailored how we approached things according to my wishes. I don’t like being put under too much pressure, and I respond well to positivity and encouragement. My coach was fantastic – she was really on my side and she was constantly reassuring me that I could achieve my goals.

“Research is part of my job so it came naturally to me to educate myself on healthy nutrition… but my Life! coach did throw in some timely reminders about the dangers of too much fried rice and the benefits of vegetables. Changing my favourite snack from chocolate to water (which was my idea) didn’t do any harm!

“My Life! coach kept things nice and simple and said that all I needed to do was eat better and exercise more regularly. Initially I joined a gym and achieved some good results, but now I’ve swapped lifting weights for lifting my child.”

Doing the Life! program has raised Shun’s self-esteem. “As well as feeling fitter, I’m much more confident now – confident in myself and confident that I can sustain the changes I made on the program. I would advise anyone who’s concerned about their health to do it. Getting positive results really isn’t hard at all.”

And the snoring? “I sleep much better now that I do more exercise, so I wouldn’t know – but I’ve had no complaints from my wife!”
