Heart Week: 30 April β 6 May
This week for Heart Week the Heart Foundation is shining a spotlight on hypertension.
6 million Australians have hypertension. Hypertension is when blood pressure is persistently higher than normal. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to a heart attack, stroke or kidney disease. There are no obvious signs or symptoms of high blood pressure, so itβs important to get your blood pressure checked.
There is a strong link between diabetes, heart disease and stroke β they share common risk factors and the best way to prevent cardiovascular disease is to prevent type 2 diabetes itself. Our Life! program has supported over 55,000 Victorians to gain the skills and motivation to reduce their risk of developing these chronic diseases.
