Shining the spotlight on hypertension for Heart Week

Heart Week: 30 April – 6 May

Heart Foundation LogoThis week for Heart Week the Heart Foundation is shining a spotlight on hypertension.

6 million Australians have hypertension. Hypertension is when blood pressure is persistently higher than normal. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to a heart attack, stroke or kidney disease. There are no obvious signs or symptoms of high blood pressure, so it’s important to get your blood pressure checked.

There is a strong link between diabetes, heart disease and stroke – they share common risk factors and the best way to prevent cardiovascular disease is to prevent type 2 diabetes itself. Our Life! program has supported over 55,000 Victorians to gain the skills and motivation to reduce their risk of developing these chronic diseases.

For more information about the Life! program call 13 RISK (13 7475).
