Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Communities

Chinese AUSDRISK

Victoria is the most culturally diverse state in Australia, with almost a quarter of the population born overseas. People from certain ethnic backgrounds - such as Melanesian, Polynesian, Middle Eastern, Chinese and the Indian sub continent - are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Many high risk groups would benefit from type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention education.

We work with translators and bilingual facilitators to deliver culturally relevant sessions to CALD communities on how to prevent type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease and improve health and wellbeing.

For CALD communities we have produced the AUSDRISK tool and participant workbooks in Vietnamese, Chinese Traditional and English which contain relevant information on topics such as healthy eating and recipe modification.

Diabetes Victoria will work with each community to plan the delivery of the prevention session and coordinate suitable information, dates and times.
